South Carolina recently established a law deeming driving with a phone out as reason to be pulled over. The warning period is coming to an end; beginning this Saturday drivers can expect to receive tickets if they are seen on a mobile device behind the wheel. Law enforcement credits distracted driving as a rising cause for vehicle accidents and Dr. Robert Hartwig, a professor at the University of South Carolina, seconds this by citing research that texting and driving has become more harmful than drunk driving. Hartwig says that “Somewhere around 1 out of 10 accidents that people are involved in today, are actually related to distracted driving”.
